Shape is More Important than Weight

The L.A. Shape Diet was published in 2005 and has been translated into 9 different languages (Spanish, German, Russian, Portugese, French, Polish, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese). The principles in the book are still up to date despite advances in genomics, epigenetics, and the microbiome since the publication of this book. As a practical matter, most consumers still do not understand that obesity is actually excess body fat not simply excess body weight. It is possible to be thin on the outside and fat on the inside which occurs in the elderly, sedentary individuals, and commonly in Asian and South Asian populations. Body composition analysis by determining the lean body mass leads to insights on the protein requirement to maintain muscle mass and control hunger. It also provides information on the number of calories burned at rest and a range of desirable weights.
