Behavior Science and Coaching: The Stages of Change

There is a science to changing human behavior. In 1989 Prochaska and DiClemente wrote up their classic description of the “Stages of Change”. This concept is widely used as the basis for behavior change strategies by wellness coaches. While it seems theoretical, there are several key points underlying this theory.

Behavior change is something you do on an ongoing basis-not just once. Past behavior predicts future behavior so there may be relapse which in weight management would be regaining weight.
