THE 4S's OF BEHAVIOR CHANGE is an easy way to remember the key elements of changing your diet and exercise behaviors or those of someone you are coaching. Awareness is the first step in Behavior Change. Awareness comes from Self-Monitoring through food and activity diaries. Stimulus Control is the ability to change how you respond to circumstances that may get in the way such as trigger foods that call out to you. Stress reduction is meditation, relaxation, and mindfulness. Social Support is the reinforcement and encouragement from a coach or support group such as a Nutrition Club.
