Sports Nutrition #7: MAGNESIUM HELPS PREVENT MUSCLE CRAMPS: If you have had a muscle cramp in your calf or thigh you know they are painful.

MAGNESIUM HELPS PREVENT MUSCLE CRAMPS: If you have had a muscle cramp in your calf or thigh you know they are painful. A muscle cramp occurs when a muscle contracts but cannot relax. Calcium triggers muscle contraction by rapidly going through channels in the muscle cells. Then Magnesium is used to help the muscle relax. Relaxation of muscles requires energy so having enough hydration and nutrients for the muscles helps to prevent cramping. That is why cramping occurs in football players during a game especially in hot weather and in the later stages of the game. Eating magnesium-rich foods like spinach and chocolate or a Magnesium-Rich sports drink can help prevent muscle cramps. If you get one, try not to scream, and then massage the muscle and walk around while drinking some fluid. #exercise #muscles #cramps #magnesium #sportsnutrition to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com
