PROTEIN QUALITY is a measure of how well a protein provides the mix of the amino acids your body needs to build proteins including muscle when combined with resistance exercises like bands, weightlifting, Pilates and some forms of yoga. The scoring system used also includes how well your body digests the protein to release the amino acids into the bloodstream. The highest protein quality is egg white, but the highest quality protein in the plant world is soy which has a score of 1.0 which is the highest score given. Proteins from corn and beans are much lower but they can be combined to provide a higher protein score as each protein contributes missing amino acids to the other. Examples for vegetarians and vegans include corn and beans orbits and rice and beans or nuts. For the rest of us, use these foods and a mix of animal and plant proteins. By eating enough protein to be in positive balance your body will take care of the rest. Protein Quality is a key part of Balanced Nutrition.
