24 HOUR NUTRITION AND THE MICROBIOME interact to keep your gastrointestinal tract in its normal rhythm so that digestion and elimination occur at predictable times each day. There are trillions of bacteria in your intestine that digest substances from your foods that make it into the large intestine without being absorbed. These substances are called prebiotics and include fibers, carbohydrates, fats, proteins and Phytonutrients. Throughout the day as these nutrients stimulate different species of bacteria, the populations of bacteria in the Microbiome change as shown in the graph of the changes in the Lactobacilli species. The changing colors of red and blue in the chart show how different species change during the day. The signals to the brain from the gut include nutrients, hormones, bile acids, and substances made by bacteria called short chain fatty acids. Late night eating and irregular meal times can upset the bacterial cycles leading to gas production, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. These conditions are very common affecting 40% of Americans and they are often associated with poor eating habits, overweight, and obesity. Have a protein-Rich shake for breakfast, a healthy lunch, afternoon shake or snack, healthy dinner including a protein-Rich shake. Make daily exercise and a Healthy Active Lifestyle a daily habit. A walk after dinner promotes intestinal movement. Instead of late night eating have an evening shake providing protein and tryptophan to promote good sleep preparing you for a healthy 24 Hour Nutrition rhythm the next day!! #drdavidheber #weightlossjourney #microbiome #microbiology #digestion to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com
