Muscles make up 40% of your body weight and they burn 14 calories per pound or 30 calories per kilogram. So for every 10 pounds of muscle or 4.5 kg you add, you will burn an additional 140 Calories per day at rest. You need to take about 20 grams of high quality protein as a shake within 30 minutes to one hour of finishing your personally designed resistance exercise or weightlifting program.
