NUTRITION HOW’S? #17: HOW TO CONTROL CARBS? Refined carbohydrates containing hidden sugar raise blood sugar quickly because they are easily absorbed by the intestines into the blood stream. They also enter the brain quickly where they stimulate the same center in the brain where drugs and other addictive behaviors stimulate the release of the brain’s pleasure signal called Endorphins which act like the drug morphine to relieve pain and anxiety. Just as a drug addict gets hooked or addicted with repeated doses of a drug, eating foods with hidden sugars, you condition this center over time to react more and more strongly to sugar or the foods you have selected for this behavior like ice cream, chocolate, and soft drinks. Sugar is found in these foods and drink in unexpected amounts shown on the slide and the sudden rise called a “sugar high” followed by a steep drop in blood sugar as insulin is released from the pancreas creates the ups and downs that stimulate addiction. Identify your “trigger foods” with hidden sugar and be sure to get enough protein to control hunger and build muscle with exercise ( the only healthy addiction!) by having Protein-Rich Shakes and enough protein and fiber at mealtimes. By controlling your cravings, you will be able to make the right food choices for Balanced Nutrition and a Healthy Active Lifestyle! #drdavidheber #cravings #sugar #weightloss to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com
