NUTRITION WHY’S #17: HOW MUCH DIETARY FAT? Fat adds taste to your foods by concentrating flavors such as sweet and salty at your taste buds. It improves the mouth feel of foods and keeps them warm. You want to minimize excess calories without sacrificing taste. You are taking your Protein-Rich Shakes which taste great and have little or no fat and burn your body fat, but how much fat should you have in the rest of your diet? The USDA advises 20 to 35 percent of calories. A very low fat diet is one below 20 percent and for most people that diet is difficult to maintain. Somewhere between 25% and 30% is enough to provide taste while also making it possible for you to balance omega-3 fats and omega-6 fats. To calculate your upper limit of 30% fat in grams per day, multiply your total calories such as 1500 X 0.3 = 450 divided by 9 Calories/gram = 50 grams per day. You can read fat grams on food labels , reduce deep fried foods or processed snack foods like potato chips and when eating your vegetables spray on olive oil which will not interfere in your omega-3/omega-6 balance. You will reduce your omega-6 by cutting total fat and then increase your omega-3 by taking fish oil supplements twice per day with meals or by eating ocean-caught wild fish three times per week. All the fat in your body will reflect these changes which will support your immune system. Remember – The type of fat you eat is the type of fat you wear!!! #drdavidheber #fat #omega3 #immunity #calories #taste to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com
