PERSONALIZATION #6: PRRSONALIZED MUSCLE TYPES – We each have unique body types and shapes based on our genetics, diet, and lifestyle. These different shapes also reflect the different muscle types we have in different parts of our bodies. There are three types of skeletal muscle: RED muscle found in posture muscles like the Glutes, Hips and Lower Back; WHITE muscle found in the chest and biceps which develop strength rapidly; and MIXED muscles with both red and white muscle fiber types. RED muscle uses fat as a primary fuel. Myoglobin is a protein that gives the muscle its red color to bind oxygen and utilize mitochondria to create ATP as an energy source for these muscles. The amounts of myoglobin are greatest in RED muscle which also has the greatest number of mitochondria, the energy factories which burn fat and carbohydrate using oxygen to make ATP. RED muscles use mostly fat and are able to remain contracted for long periods of time, while WHITE muscle uses mostly carbohydrate in order to develop contraction quickly. You can determine which muscles grow larger and stronger based on the exercises you do. Next time, I will talk about the need to personalize your exercises and nourish them with a Protein-Rich Shake within 30 minutes to one hour after exercise so that your muscles get the amino acids they need to grow and get stronger !! #drdavidheber #muscle #protein #strength #shake #training to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com
