WEIGHT MANAGEMENT BASICS #5: WHY HYDRATION ? When trying to lose weight many people forget about drinking enough throughout the day and especially when exercising. You lose about 500 ml of water through your sweat and through the moisture leaving your body through your breath. Your body is about 70% water; your muscles are 75% water; your gastrointestinal tract secretes and reabsorbs about 13 liters of water in the process of digesting your food; and your kidneys filter 120 liters of water a day and excrete about a liter of urine. Your urine may be darker yellow first thing in the morning since you don’t drink when you are asleep, by it should be a light yellow color when you are well-hydrated during the day. In each of these systems not getting enough water can lead to problems including muscle cramps, constipation, fatigue, and dry skin. Each quart or liter of water weighs one kilogram or two pounds. Day to day shifts in body weight often reflect changes in the amount of water in your body. You can count water, tea, and coffee as part of the 6 to 8 glasses of water you have each day as all of these have water and you don’t lose more than you drink as was once thought about tea and coffee. When you exercise you will lose water through sweat. If you are not sweating, you are not doing enough high intensity aerobics unless you are in a cold dry place. Let thirst be your guide during exercise and have enough water or sports drink to quench your thirst. High calorie drinks like colas, soft drinks, and fruit juices can have 150 Calorie and gourmet coffees with added sugar, milk, and cream can have over 200 Calories. So along with your Protein-Rich Shakes, Balanced Nutrition and Healthy Active Lifestyle to cut calories and lose weight while gaining muscle – be sure to stay Hydrated to help your intestines, kidneys, muscles, and skin stay healthy!!! #drdavidheber #water #tea #coffee #hydration to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com and read PERSONALIZED NUTRITION AND TRANSFORMATION available on Amazon.com and Kindle as an e-book for $5.49
