WEIGHT MANAGEMENT BASICS #6: SOY PROTEIN – When you are trying to lose weight you eat fewer calories overall, but you need to maintain your muscles and control your hunger by getting enough protein at every meal. That is why Protein- Rich Shakes work so well, but the protein should be of high quality. What is the best plant protein on the planet? It is SOY PROTEIN which has all the amino acids you need for good health. Proteins are made up of 21 different common amino acids. 9 of these amino acids are essential which means that your body does not make them and like vitamins – you need the right amount every day in your diet. When you are eating fewer calories overall- getting the right amount and type of protein you need for your body is the key to maintaining the protein in your muscles including your heart which is a muscle. If you don’t eat enough protein, your muscles will break down. In 1992, scientists agreed to use a method called PDCAAS to compare the quality of different proteins with the best possible being 1.0. Soy protein, egg white, and whey protein all got a perfect score of 1.0. Other proteins like quinoa, sesame, and rice protein got much lower scores but because they are missing different amino acids they can be combined to make a higher quality protein but not as good as Soy Protein. Vegetarians and vegans use combinations of rice and beans or corn and beans or nuts to get their protein but including soy can help Vegetarians and Vegans stay healthy. Soy protein is NOT an estrogen, and I will discuss that in my next post, so stay tuned!!#drdavidheber #soy #protein #weightlossjourney to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com and read PERSONALIZED NUTRITION AND TRANSFORMATION available for $5.49 on Amazon.com as an e-book on your Kindle App or Kindle Book.
