WEIGHT MANAGEMENT BASICS #8: WHY SUGAR By laurent514 on May 10, 2019 • ( 0 ) View this post on Instagram WEIGHT MANAGEMENT BASICS #8: WHY SUGAR ? I am often asked why there is sugar in a Protein-Rich Shake and why Fructose ? Why not ordinary table sugar (sucrose which is half glucose and half fructose)? Fructose is a natural sugar found in fruits and vegetables and it is sweeter than glucose. That means you can use less fructose in the shake than glucose to get the same sweetness. Glucose increases blood sugar which stimulates the pancreas to release insulin, but Fructose does not increase blood sugar. Many people with increased body fat are at increased risk of type 2 diabetes which I call “Diabesity”. This condition results from increased stress on the pancreas to release insulin. Over many years, high blood sugar burns out the pancreas insulin-releasing cells leading to increased blood sugar all day and ultimately type 2 diabetes. The pancreas can be preserved by reducing high Glycemic Index (high GI) foods in the diet and through exercise to build your muscles. Muscle cells can remove glucose from the blood stream during exercise without needing insulin from the pancreas. Using fructose helps keep the GI of the shakes low while providing the protein to control hunger and build muscle. Protein-Rich Shakes, Balanced Nutrition, and a Healthy Active Lifestyle includes fructose as part of the plan in both shakes and in fruits and vegetables. High fructose corn syrup is the same as table sugar having both glucose and fructose in about equal proportions. It is used in many processed snack foods and colas in large amounts and like table sugar raises blood sugar. The increase in added sugar from table sugar and High Frictose Corn Syrup has contributed to the global obesity epidemic. Don’t confuse fructose with high fructose corn syrup. With about the amount found in an apple, fructose in your Protein-Rich Shake can provide the taste that will keep you on your weight management plan!! #drdavidheber #sugar #fructose #protein #weightlossjourney to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com and read PERSONALIZED NUTRITION AND TRANSFORMATION available on Amazon.com for $5.49.
