WEIGHT MANAGEMENT #24: #6 STRETCH AND ROLL- Once you complete your warm-up and you are well-hydrated with your Sports Drink ready to quench your thirst – you are ready to stretch and roll. When you are in the same position for many hours whether sitting or sleeping, your muscles tighten with the stronger muscle groups called agonists(quads or biceps) overcoming the opposing or antagonist muscles (hamstrings or triceps). Stretching resets the balance between opposing muscles and feels good by relieving some of the aches and pains of tight muscles. Rolling breaks up connections between a paper-thin tissue called fascia. The fascia are thin and clear but strong like transparent packing tape around and between muscle groups. Over time they grow connections called adhesions which keep the muscle groups in position. Sitting is not natural and fixes some of these connections in positions that cause tightening of muscle groups. Rolling over the muscles with a foam roller will hurt at first as you break up the fascia but over time this will be relaxing like stretching your muscles. Roll your triceps, latissimus, IT band, quads, and Glutes in every session before going on to HIIT and resistance exercises. You can look up these rolls and stretches on the Internet and I will demonstrate some of these in a future post. In the next few posts , I will discuss the Heart Muscles, HIIT, and how to build up opposing muscle groups with resistance exercises, so stay tuned!! #drdavidheber #stretching #rolling #exercise #weightlossjourney to learn more go to www.drdavidheber.com and www.herbalifenutritioninstitute.com and read PERSONALIZED NUTRITION AND TRANSFORMATION available as an e-book on Amazon.com for $5.49
