We are creatures of habit. Once we learn a behavior whether it is good or bad – we tend to repeat it. The Reward Center in the brain provides a pleasure response simply from the routine repetition of a behavior whether it is good such as a healthy form of exercise or bad such as stopping for fast food on the drive home. Psychologists have developed a theory to describe the “Stages of Change” from thinking about change, to actively changing, to maintaining the change, and even slipping up and having to start the process again.
