COACHING #4: 3. PLAN GOALS- If you don’t know where you are going, you probably won’t get there! So the next step in coaching a client is to Plan Goals. There are six properties that well-planned goals share: 1) They are Specific such as a target weight or building muscle fitness;2) They are Measurable such as body weight, composition, or muscle strength; 3) They are Attainable and realistic. If necessary, set a goal that may be part way to your client’s final goal but one that is achievable in a reasonable time; 4) The goal must be Relevant so that it has meaning and significance to your client. You choose the goal together and agree it is worth achieving; 5) The goal is Time Limited – set a date to evaluate and review progress toward the goal. You can remember these five steps in planning a goal with the first letters of each step – SMART!!
