We each have a Circle of Influence and a Circle of Concern. The Circle of Concern is made up of all the things outside that cause you to worry which you cannot control including other people, places, and things. Your Circle of Influence includes what you can control – Your Personal Habits. Dr. Steven Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” outlines how to develop successful habits : 1) Begin with the End in Mind; 2) Put First Things First; 3) Think Win-Win 4) Seek First to Understand, then to Be Understood; 5) Work Together with Others (Synergize) 6) Sharpen your Skills; 7) Be ProActive by Taking Responsibility for Your Personal Habits. If you haven’t read this book -get a copy. The opposite of being Proactive is being inactive and worrying about things you cannot change. If all you do is worry, you will get nothing done. A Jazz musician once said “There is no sense in worrying about the things you can change, because you can change those things. There is no sense in worrying about the things you can’t change because you can’t change them anyway. So basically – there is no point in worrying”. Worrying and anxiety cause stress and stress leads to inaction – So stop worrying and be Proactive!!
