HAPPINESS #7: HELPING OTHERS

HAPPINESS #7: HELPING OTHERS – When you help another person change their life by getting healthier and happier, you get happier too. Many studies have shown that helping others benefits you in return. The caring connection is related to reductions in the stress hormone called cortisol and the release of a hormone called oxytocin which is called the compassion hormone. As shown in the brain scans on the slide, the result of helping others is an increase in the activity of the pleasure center in YOUR brain. You may have experienced the warmth that follows the hug you give someone you have helped as well as the long term happiness of a life filled with the gratitude of others through their recognition of your helping efforts. Giving back through volunteering also has many benefits for you as well as for society. You will have the chance to meet and connect with people in new settings that build social ties that strengthen you in times of stress. There is evidence that volunteering to make others healthier and happier can make you healthier and happier too. As you tell others to incorporate a Protein-Rich Shake for breakfast every day along with Balanced Nutrition and a Healthy Active Lifestyle, you will follow that same diet and lifestyle yourself to be an effective and trusted Agent of Change. So you benefit in so many ways from helping others. Giving back by following your Purpose- “ Making the World Healthier and Happier” also helps you get healthier and happier. So embrace others and the hugs will come back to you many times over!!
